As part of an initiative to improve the standards of education in Malaysia, the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) has unveiled the Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013-2025). Currently in its first wave, this blueprint encompasses building world-class education to develop a nation of highly-skilled, knowledgeable and united Malaysians.
At Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN), we have done our small part to help shape young leaders capable of competing with their peers in the global sphere. That starts with fair opportunity and equal access to quality education for all Malaysians. Through the years, we have been giving back by providing scholarships and study loans to help deserving students further their studies at prestigious local institutions like Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), public universities, and renowned institutions abroad.
On top of that, our Global Outreach Programme (GOP) and Student Mobility Programme (Program Pengantarabangsaan Mobiliti – Study Abroad) has given deserving scholars at local universities and students the opportunity to travel abroad, experience different cultures and cultivate a global mindset. While within our borders, YTN initiatives like the Eastern Pearl Programme (Program Mutiara Timur - PMT) and the TNB - Nurturing Future Leaders/Enriching Young Talent programme have also provided our youth with real-world experiences, innovative ways of thinking and introduced them to the possibility of a brighter future by pursuing a higher education in engineering and other related field. These little initiatives are all part of one ultimate goal to develop and nurture the younger generation in helping them realise their true potential.
Over the years, our partner university has also been gaining traction. To date, UNITEN has amassed numerous accolades and garnered global recognition. In 2017, they received a 5-star rating in SETARA-2017’s Mature University category. This year (2018), they ranked among the top 2% in the QS Asia University Rankings, and 371 in the QS World University Rankings under the subject of Engineering & Technology. They’ve also made the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018 list.
When you apply to become a YTN scholar, you’re joining the ranks of our nation’s brightest, most outstanding students in their pursuit of a world-class education. This is done not only through your books, but also with the right attitude and mindset so that you can stand proud at the world’s arena.
