Before your interview, learn as much as you can about the YTN scholarship, and our goal when we started this programme – reach out to past scholars or check out our website for some pointers. Once you have knowledge of the programme and where you fit in, you'll be able to anticipate any question we might ask. Doing your research also demonstrates your commitment and seriousness, which could earn you some extra brownie points.
Put yourself in the shoes of your interviewer. Make a list of the possible questions that might come up, Google search common interview questions, and write down your response for each of them. Some of the common questions that might come up include: Why do you deserve this scholarship, where do you see yourself in five years, tell us about yourself.
They say everything gets better with practise. So practise your answers with your friends, siblings, parents, a total stranger – anyone who would listen! Get feedback from anywhere you can and improve from there. The more you practise, the more natural and effortless you'll seem on the real day.
Finally, it's d-day. You've done your research, prepped, and practised as much as you can. Today is the day you show us all that hard work counts for something, the day you prove your worth. The most important tip we can give you is to dress appropriately, turn up early, and just relax! Now’s your time to shine, so take a deep breath and just be yourself.
When leaving an interview, be sure to thank your interviewers for their time and consideration. Let them know you look forward to hearing from them, and that you are available to answer any additional questions they might have. Remember to maintain eye contact, this will demonstrate your confidence!
